Kaloki Nyamai 于 1985 年出生于肯尼亚基图伊，目前在内罗毕生活和工作。他的第一个灵感来自他的母亲和他的祖母，他们在 50 年代后期是一名传统歌手，并在 60 年代政治逮捕后停止了公开演唱。是他的母亲首先教他如何绘画，而他的祖母会告诉他过去的故事：关于她的祖母和曾祖母，以及他们是如何来到他们现在称之为家的地方的，而故事历史书却没有告诉。

Kaloki Nyamai was born in 1985 in Kitui, Kenya and lives and works in Nairobi. His first inspirations were his mother and his grandmother, who was a traditional singer in the late 50s and stopped public singing after a political arrest in the 60s. It is his mother who first taught him how to draw and his grandmother who would tell him stories about the past: about her grandmother and her great-grandmother and how they came to be in the place they now call home and stories history books do not tell.

他大量借鉴祖母讲述的坎巴人的故事，探索历史和身份如何交织在一起，审视过去和现在以及介于两者之间的空间。他的作品是多面的，层次丰富的特点，提供碎片，用缝合慢慢拼凑。作品制作过程中所采用的漫长研究过程反映在观看它们的体验中，“就像历史的层层”。

Drawing heavily on the stories of the Kamba people told by his grandmother, he explores how history and identity are intertwined, looking at the past the present and the space in between. His works are multifaceted and characterised by rich layers, offering fragments to be pieced together slowly with stitching. The lengthy research process employed in the making of the works is mirrored in the experience of viewing them, "it’s like layers of history".

In his recent body of work he is exploring relationships. Life experiences that show on our bodies, stitches that leave scars on us, showing much what we have gone through as people.
