Located at No. 100, North Fujian Road, Jing'an District of Shanghai, MixC World is situated at the hinterland of the Suhe Bay area, connected to the Bund and overlooking Lujiazui across the Huangpu River.

MixC World is situated close to the 42,000-square-metre Central Eco Park and Shenyuli, one of the city's best-preserved shikumen (stone-gate) neighborhoods, plus is nearby to the only Thean Hou Temple in downtown Shanghai. With commercial complexes covering nearly 60,000 square meters, the project is made up of east and west zones. Its open commercial space is combined with the Central Eco Park, attracting businesses such as fashion, 24-hour premium food and beverage, and allowing for outdoor lifestyle activities and pet friendly experiences. MixC World seamlessly and comprehensively blends nature, commerce and history in a truly modern setting. Emphasizing the concept of “Life is Boundless”, the project is designed to straddle life and play, constructing a new space for arts, culture, and fashion.

In 2016, Kokaistudios won the international competition. Our services scope includes:

① master plan of Shanghai Suhe MixC World Central Eco Park and the underground commercial space;

② architecture design of the underground commercial space;

③ interior design of Shenyuli and Thean Hou Temple’s underground commercial space;

④ architecture and interior design of the northeast side building.

concept process

With the comprehensive research onsite, the team conceived the concept of an "Urban Valley" and proposed a design that takes the park as the dominant urban public space: the underground commercial space occupies part of the "valley", which has a very natural fluidity and reflects a concept that integrates commercial space with urban green space.

Focusing on rethinking an underground mall, the “Urban Valley” presents a brand-new public space in the city center. The design connects physically, visually and conceptually to the area’s ongoing development, as well as its significant cultural heritage.

Shanghai Suhe MixC World blurs boundaries between Shanghai’s past, present and future.

The “Urban Valley” is a new public space, fully integrates with its surrounding, that sets a new benchmark for commercial space in the city.
