Ruprecht Dreher (*1951 in Grünstadt/Pfalz) studied with Joseph Beuys at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1971 to 1978. He has lived and worked in Berlin since 1978. Since 1987 he has exhibited in Düsseldorf, Cologne, Berlin, Leipzig, as well as in Milan, Budapest, Paris, San Francisco, New York, Basel and Venice.
His main artistic work is dedicated to abstract painting, with color and its materiality in the foreground. He examines their development on the basis, form and body, as physical force and in their objectness. His works are based on a dialogic/dialectical form; Reciprocal, opposite things are evoked and determined: in front of/behind; old New; positive/negative; dull/shiny. The surface becomes the topography. His works are sometimes interpreted as depiction-abstract (but at the same time material-concrete) narration.
