人类的进化属于某种“双轨进化”，囊括了生命体进化和文化性进化两种模式。而促进这两种模式的驱动因素却各不相同，生命的进化取决于基因（Gene），而文化的进化则取决于“模因”（Meme）。

“模因”源自英国科学家理查德•道金斯（Richard Dawkins）所著的《自私的基因》，作者试图阐述基因和“模因”之间的相似性。“模因”理论建立在进化论的基础上，将文化传承与发展的过程比作生物学中的演变规则，同样会出现复制（模仿）、变异和选择。艺术创作亦是如此，从艺术家思绪的灵光闪现到落实为一件完成的艺术品，同一个单体细胞进化成完全体生物一样。创造艺术品的过程，也是基于某种方法论，选取最适宜的媒介，加以理想化和精神化的变体使其成为人类最高精神的自然表现。通过“模因”理论来梳理艺术创作，最大的特点就在于将艺术作品视作鲜活生命力的存在，这样的生命力符合“模因”的基本规律。

本次展览将为观众呈现卜云军、邓称文、傅斯特、王梵僧、王锐、王一好、王永学、肖婷婷、阎硕、郑卓迦、张文钦、左岩峰和邹涛共十三位艺术家的作品。处在“模因”时代的青年当代艺术家们传承着已有的知识体系和文化遗产，且不断创造新的意义与可能性。在接收着大量信息冲击的情况下，由崭新的载体、不断的变化和多样的机制构建艺术作品生命的叠加态。“模因”作为一种理念和价值观，也让艺术变得具有“选择性”，这种选择会是双向的，人们选择不同的艺术，同时艺术也在选择我们。

Human being’s evolution belongs to a kind of "two-track evolution", which includes the evolution of life and culture. Yet, the driving factors are different. The evolution of life depends on gene, while the evolution of culture depends on "Meme".

"Meme" comes from the Selfish Gene (1976), a book by British scientist Richard Dawkins. In this book, the author tries to illustrate the similarities between genes and "memes". Based on the theory of evolution, the "meme" theory compares the process of cultural inheritance and development to the rules of biological evolution, which also leads to replication (imitation), variation, and selection. The same is true of artistic creation. From the flash of artist's mind to the realization of a finished artwork, same as a single cell evolves into a whole creature. The process of creating works is also based on a certain methodology, selecting the most suitable media, idealizing and spiritualizing variants to make them the natural expression of the human spirit. The most important feature of combing artistic creation through the theory of "meme" is that artistic works are regarded as the existence of fresh vitality, which conforms to the basic law of "meme".

This exhibition will present the works of 13 artists: Bu Yunjun, Deng Chengwen, Fu Site, Wang Fansheng, Wang Rui, Wang Yihao, Wang Yongxue, Xiao Tingting, Yan Shuo, Zheng Zhuojia, Zhang Wenqin, Zuo Yanfeng, and Zou Tao. Young contemporary artists in the era of "meme" inherit the existing knowledge system and cultural heritage, and constantly create new meanings and possibilities. Under the condition of receiving a large amount of information impact, the superposition state of artworks is constructed by new carriers, constant changes, and diverse mechanisms. As a concept and value, "meme" also makes art "selective". This is two-way selection, as people choose various arts while art also chooses us.
