      詹姆斯·欧文斯的作品混合了记忆、当下以及想象中的景致，并且在这些临界时刻形成新的叙事。在其作品中，植物静谧地爬行、跳舞、交流。它们在看似不可能的环境中生长，从地缝拔起，向阳伸展。他喜欢绘制情绪饱满的夜间景致，以表达一种愿力，以及神话学的惊人能量。每一幅夜色降临的画作中，艺术家薄染一层蓝色丙烯为底，并在上面反复以深色薄涂建构出人物和风景的种种细节，并透过这样的颜色反差制造出一种发光甚至是背光的效果。这样的图像让人想起在暗中视线模糊的感受。在夜晚，色彩和形体都会扭曲，让眼睛错判，仿佛每块阴影处都会生出子虚乌有的事物；而在视线模糊的同时，让其他感官变得更敏感，更容易引发一些令人不安的陌生反应。
