刘可的艺术活动虽然庞杂,但大致还可以分为三类,即绘画、装置和公共艺术。这三类艺术有一个时间的顺序,绘画为先,主要在早期,后来也有绘画,但不是早期的形式,而是观念化的倾向。中间是装置,装置很难定义,雕塑、平面和综合材料都可能,很难想象,他怎么能搞这么多名堂。最后是公共艺术,公共艺术和装置有一个衔接,一个扩大的公共空间,公开的或隐密的社会介入。
Although Liu Ke's artistic activities are enormous, they canbe broadly divided into three categories: painting, installation and public art. And there is a chronological order in these three kinds of art. Painting comes first. As time passes by, it shows his tendency towards conceptual art. The second stage is his installations. It is quite difficult to define installations - they can be either sculptures, two-dimensional works or mixed-media works. We can hardly imagine how he has possibly done so many different things. The last is public art. There is a connection between public art and installation, both involving an expanding public space, and social interventionswhich are neither open or private.

对刘可来说,这是艺术形态、观念和媒材的演变,既是一个艺术成长的过程,也是精神指向的过程,后者更为重要。从一开始,他就不是关注艺术的表象,形式对他意味着精神的构成,不只是感性的力量,而是一个形而上的空间。他必然从具象走向抽象,具象会限制他的思考,而在抽象的符号之间,可以感受到思想的游走。他活跃的、不安分的思想不是漂浮的,而是焦虑的,纠结的,他是要在艺术的重山中等待走出重山的天启。
This is Liu Ke’s evolution of artistic forms, concepts and media, which is not only a process of growth, but also a process of spiritual orientation. He was not interested in the appearance of art from the very beginning, as for him forms means the construal spirits, exceedingthe perceptual power, while creatinga metaphysical space. He is bound to move from figurations to abstractions. Figurationswill only trap his mind, while he can feel the free wandering of thoughts in abstract symbols. Deep down, his active and restless thoughts are not lightsome, but anxious and tangled. As his demands of walking out from the apocalypse of art.

装置是一个模糊的概念,刘可把它扩展到一个漫长的时间和巨大的空间,用它来思考历史、现在和未来,历史虽然远去,但历史的阴影仍然笼罩着我们,它与现实重叠,要摆脱历史的重负,是将它碎解还是重构,不是历史的使命,而是自我的选择,虽然工程浩大,仍然是他思考的结晶。刘可不会给出一个答案,但我们可以看出他的焦虑,艺术将走向何方,文化将走向何方。他有一个设想,但我们猜不透。作为社会的介入,他是将艺术的个体置于社会交往之中。既像艺术从隐秘的角落偷窥社会,又像社会将艺术揪出私密的空间,更有可能,他在测量艺术于社会的温度,在一个后工业和高智能的时代,艺术于社会的作用和功能。
As mentioned previously, the concept of installations is vague. Liu Ke extendsits limits in time and space, and releases his thoughts about history, present and future. Although history is a spectre continuing to envelop us. It overlaps with reality. To get rid of the heavy burden of history, is not the mission of history itself, but the choices of ourselves. Although his project is huge, he is still working on it. Even Liu does not provide us witha solid answer, his anxiety is revealedon where the art and civilizations will go. He hasa proposal, which cannot be figured out. As the a way of social intervention, he places his artistic individual among social communications. It is more likely that he is measuring the temperature of art in society. In this postindustrial and highly intelligent era, testing the role and function of art in society.
“穿越”意味着门类、时空之间的自由移动,刘可的穿越在于他的创造性思维,他质疑现存事物的合法性,探究表象后面的真实,挑战自身创造的极限,以个人艺术的小天地,折射了当代艺术发展的大势。

"Crossover" means the free movement among categories, time and space. Liu Ke's crossing lies in his creative thinking. He questions the legitimacy of existingbeings, explores the truth behind the appearance, challenges the limits of his own creation, and reflects the general trends of contemporary art development through the lens of his individualartistic creations.
