作为体育设施设计领域的领头羊，在过往近40年的时间里，HOK设计了诸多具有标志性的卓越体育场馆。我们一直致力于创造满足所有涉众的创新解决方案。我们在球迷座位区设计方面开创了许多创新的解决方案，包括能够满足各种类型球迷需求的定制化高端附加服务与提升业主品牌知名度并提高赞助效益的空间。这些创新理念在近期项目中也展现得淋漓尽致。

以下是HOK近期体育场馆项目及进展介绍。

瑞典艾维奇体育馆升级改造

HOK为瑞典斯德哥尔摩的标志性建筑艾维奇体育馆担任建筑师，升级改造这个世界上最大的球形建筑。它将是2025年冰球世界锦标赛（IIHF）的决赛场地。

“艾维奇体育馆是斯德哥尔摩的一个重要且著名的地标，作为音乐会、娱乐盛会和冰球的主要场地，它有着悠久的历史，” HOK体育+娱乐总监John Rhodes说，“我们很荣幸有机会与Legends和Stockholm Globe Arena Fastigheter AB (SGAF) 合作，为场馆注入新的产品服务与能量，提升观众、运动员和表演者的体验。”

艾维奇体育馆于1989年落成开放，它是瑞典的国家冰球馆，并举办过各种活动和音乐会。此次翻新将确保艾维奇体育馆作为大型活动目的地的同时，提升球迷和观众的体验，并协助SGAF重新布局现有空间以创造收入。

美国亚利桑那州

希拉河体育馆升级改造

HOK将为位于美国亚利桑那州格伦代尔市，拥有18,000个座位的希拉河体育馆提供升级改造服务。该场馆由市政府拥有，并由一流的场馆管理和服务公司ASM Global管理，是占地90万平方米的韦斯特盖特娱乐区（Westgate Entertainment District）的中心。

邀请HOK提供设计服务是格伦代尔市对希拉河体育馆再投资的第一步，以确保其在未来20年的竞争力。自2003年希拉河体育馆开业以来，娱乐业发生了巨大的变化。翻新工程将对希拉河体育馆进行升级，使它成为一个拥有尖端技术和最新配套设施的世界级场馆。

希拉河体育馆是作为一个多功能场馆而建造的，它是NHL（National Hockey League；北美国家冰球联盟）亚利桑那郊狼队的主场。郊狼队在2021-2022赛季后将不再在该场馆进行比赛。在激烈的竞争过程中，HOK证明了它在创意和技术能力上都能实现格伦代尔的目标，即为这个不再是冰球场馆的体育设施进行重新规划和定位。

韦斯特盖特娱乐区在希拉河体育馆建成后围绕它进行开发，并已发展成为西谷首屈一指的娱乐目的地。它是人们聚集在一起进行餐饮、夜生活、购物、社区活动、商业活动、音乐会和体育赛事等的地方。

韦斯特盖特周围的大休闲体育娱乐区继续蓬勃发展，包括顶级高尔夫、沙漠钻石赌场和目前正在建设中的水晶湖岛度假村项目，预计将于2023年初开业。

The Sage 滨水娱乐区

盖茨黑德市市政委员会批准了The Sage项目的规划。它是一个位于英格兰北部的价值2.6亿英镑的海滨休闲开发项目。这个混合型娱乐区由Ask房地产公司和Patrizia AG公司开发，将包括酒店、酒吧、餐馆和零售，在泰恩河畔创造一个独一无二的娱乐目的地。该项目将由ASM Global公司运营。

威尔士卡迪夫体育馆

As a sports facilities design leader for more than 35 years, HOK has built a legacy of exceptional stadiums. Our work focuses on creating an exceptional experience for all stakeholders. We have pioneered numerous solutions in seating bowl design, including a variety of tailored premium products that serve the needs of every type of fan and experiential spaces that serve owners’ brand and sponsorship goals.

Here are some of HOK’s recent stadium and area projects.

Avicii Arena Modernization

Stockholm Globe Arena Fastigheter AB (SGAF) has selected HOK as the lead architect to design modernization of Iconic Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, the world’s largest spherical building.

“Avicii Arena is a significant and wonderful landmark in Stockholm and has a long and storied history as a premier destination for concerts, entertainment and hockey,” said John Rhodes, director of Sports + Entertainment at HOK. “We’re honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with Legends International and SGAF to infuse the arena with new offerings and energy that will elevate the spectator, athlete and performer experience.”

The venue, which opened in 1989, serves as Sweden’s national hockey arena and hosts diverse events and concerts. The project will ensure that the building remains a destination for major events while enhancing the fan and spectator experience and aiding SGAF in repositioning existing spaces to generate revenue.

“Avicii Arena is an iconic venue that our team is privileged to be helping SGAF reimagine,” said Martin Jennings, managing director UK and head of global planning for Legends. “We have brought together a great combination of international design and project expertise, combined with local know-how, to help SGAF make Avicii Arena a landmark venue for live entertainment and top-tier ice hockey for years to come.”

“It has been a long and rewarding process, and we feel confident that we, together with our tenant Stockholm Live among others, have procured a very competent team in Legends International. We are looking forward to working up proposals for the Stockholm City Council and begin the development of Avicii Arena,” said Mats Viker, CEO of SGAF.

The team currently is developing a concept design and the business case for the project. When complete, the concept design will be presented to Stockholm City Council for review and approval.

Gila River Arena Modernization

HOK will lead the design of the modernization of the 18,000-seat Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Owned by the City and managed by premier venue management and services company ASM Global, the 18,000-seat venue anchors the vibrant 223-acre Westgate Entertainment District.

The selection of HOK is the first step in the City’s reinvestment back into the arena, to keep it competitive for the next 20 years. The entertainment industry has changed dramatically since Gila River Arena opened its doors in 2003. The renovations will modernize the facility, ensuring that it’s a world-class venue of choice with cutting-edge technology and updated guest amenities.

“We are incredibly excited about the bright future as we evolve the facility and reinvent how people experience Gila River Arena,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “Bringing in the expertise of an industry leader like HOK is critical for providing more opportunities for the venue to reach its full potential.”

HOK has a track record of taking existing facilities and transforming them with a ‘wow’ factor, while incorporating current and future thinking around the guest experience, fan amenities, back of house infrastructure and food and beverage options.

Phelps says the modernization will position Glendale to attract high-profile national and international acts.

Gila River Arena was built as a multipurpose facility that housed the Arizona Coyotes NHL team. The Coyotes will no longer play at the arena after the 2021-2022 season. During a rigorous and competitive selection process, HOK demonstrated that it is both creatively and technically adept to achieve Glendale’s goal of reimagining the arena once it no longer serves as a hockey venue.

Westgate Entertainment District developed around the arena after it was built and has grown into a premier entertainment destination in the West Valley. It is a place where people come together for dining, nightlife, shopping, community events, business, concerts, sporting events and more.

“The City of Glendale has been a great partner for Westgate and we support its decision to take the arena in an exciting new direction,” said Dan Dahl, YAM Properties director of real estate. “At its core, Westgate is an entertainment district, and we strive to bring a versatile mix of shopping, dining and experiential tenants into the center. Among others, in 2022 we will welcome PopStroke, a golf-entertainment concept featuring a 36-hole putting facility and a Thirsty Lion gastropub to Westgate’s lineup.”

The greater sports and entertainment district around Westgate continues to boom and includes Top Golf, Desert Diamond Casino and the Crystal Lagoons Island Resort project that is currently under construction with an expected opening date of early 2023.

The Westgate Entertainment District is already the biggest in the state of Arizona. The Gila River Arena modernization project demonstrates that Glendale will continue its investment in the area, helping it realize its potential to be the biggest in the Southwest.

The next step will be a kickoff meeting between the parties to establish overarching project goals. HOK will then develop conceptual design ideas which will be the framework for reimaging the venue, enhancing it for live entertainment experiences and profitability for decades to come.

The Sage

The Gateshead Municipal Borough Council approved plans for The Sage, the £260 million waterfront leisure development in northern England. The mixed-use entertainment district, developed by Ask Real Estate and Patrizia AG, will include hotels, bars, restaurants and retail, creating a distinctive destination on the banks of the River Tyne. The development will be operated by ASM Global.

“The Sage offers a flexible and responsive design solution for Gateshead that will allow the region to attract high-profile events and conferences while infusing the area, which already boasts rich cultural buildings and spaces, with another gathering space and entertainment destination,” said John Rhodes, director of Sports + Entertainment at HOK. “We’re thrilled to see the project progress through planning and look forward to the catalytic growth that will result from this investment in the city.”

The 12,500-seat arena will host music, cultural and sporting events, as well as conferences and exhibitions. The highly flexible seating bowl design is comprised of fixed, retractable and removable seats, allowing the venue to transform to accommodate audiences as small as 1,500. The sensitive, scalable design solution facilitates pedestrian-friendly connections between surrounding development, the waterfront and Gateshead’s town centre.

Cardiff Arena

Plans for a highly sustainable arena and entertainment district in Cardiff, Wales also received planning approval. The 17,000-capacity venue will deliver an impressive fan experience with diverse premium offerings, a large event floor and an event piazza. Back of house spaces and amenities will help attract artists from around the world.

“Cardiff Arena will be an important addition to the city’s renowned live entertainment scene and accelerate development and reinvestment in Cardiff Bay,” said Rhodes. “The project is embedded in the city and its massing has been controlled to thoughtfully respond to its context. Cardiff Bay will once again export energy to the world in the form of live entertainment.”

Materials including steel and wood will communicate the connection to the waterfront, docks and the city’s rich history as a major coal exporter and producer of steel furnaces. The design prioritizes sustainability and will pursue BREAAM Excellent. HOK is collaborating with Cardiff Council to bring the community’s vision for a world-class entertainment district to life.
