Coming Soon | Xi’an Neo Force · Parkson Renovation
In 2020, Kokaistudios was commissioned to upgrade the Xi'an Neo Force · Parkson project, with the service scope including architectural renovation, interior design and landscape design. Location and Status
site location
The project is located at the intersection of West Xingshan Temple Street and Middle Chang'an Road, three blocks away north to the central axis of the Xi'an ancient city, adjacent to the Shaanxi Provincial Museum to the east and the famous Daxingshan Temple to the northwest. The location is a traditional and mature core business area, a trendy cultural base, and a historical and cultural center that brings altogether the essense of Xi'an. Before the renovation, the architecture was originally an eight-story podium attached to a high-rise office building - a traditional enclosed box-style department store and a hotel podium. Because the northern and southern buildings were not built in the same time and at different heights, the commercial space appeared to be large but impractical; the existing plaza was enclosed by the building’s backward interface and lacked popularity and appropriate scale. Architecture Renovation:
Multi-level City multi-level city concept We attempt to use the concept of "Multi-level City" to subvert the original single closed volume.
Vertically, the building is broken down into five "Multi-level Cities": an open block on the ground floor, flagship stores on the second and the third floors, a relatively closed but connected main volume on the fourth to the sixth floors, a freestanding entertainment and social space on the seventh to the eighth floors (the original glass curtain wall has been retained), and a rooftop garden that has been reshaped as well.

The main volume is characterized by an array of concrete slabs with a deep historical texture, expressing the intention of the terracotta warriors' armor of Xi'an, thus highlighting the cultural connection between the building and the city. ground floor plan

Between the "Multi-level City", the white lines of the streets are carried by escalators, canopies and platform railings, which are embedded in different spaces, activating the interaction between the external city and the internal commercial space, and also integrating the originally broken north and south floors into a continuous commercial space, completely changing the once closed and dull appearance. Interior Design: The Silk Road interior design inspiration
flowing circulation between the outdoor and indoor While continuing the concept of "Multi-level City", the interior space also takes the ancient Silk Road as inspiration, linking the thematic spaces on each floor: "West Market of Chang'an" from the first basement to the first floor, "Loulan" from the second to the third floor, "Persia" from the fourth to the sixth floor, and “Rome” from the seventh to the eighth floor. The design uses the same materials and logic, with different concepts to extract elements, resulting in a colorful and unforgettable journey. interior views Themed and inspired by silk, the main atrium winds up along its vibrant orange glass, leading customers to explore different functions and experiences on each main floor. Landscape Design: Oases along The Silk Road landscape inspiration
landscape axonometric drawing
The outdoor landscape design draws inspiration from oases along the Silk Road, where the natural beauty of the West Regions is embodied in the details: from the plaza and open block on the ground floor, to the enclosed landscape on the second floor, then to the cascading terraces between the third and the fifth floor, finally to the lush gardens on the roof. Floor by floor as one walks up to the top and looks back, each part of the experience is a distinctive view of the oases in this extraordinary journey. design principles Through the comprehensive renovation, the building has integrated into the urban environment, allowing both citizens and visitors in this stereo block and platforms to appreciate the ancient and vibrate urban splendor that has flourished for over a thousand years. While walking through it, they make the building into an urban scenery as well: the majestic armors of the terracotta warriors has been dissolved by the bustling modern way of living, where the rich history and daily life are fittingly harmonized into one.
