andon
The functional value of a table usually lies in the “top” of the tabletop, while its “bottom” serves as a supporting structure.
This is where the “andon,” an ancient Japanese lantern, came into the spotlight. Based on the Japanese lifestyle of sitting and sleeping on the floor, andon is a type of floor-lamp that is designed to illuminate the floor and its surroundings.
Inspired by this feature, the space under the table is illuminated using the structure of the table legs. As a result, the space under and around the tabletop, which would normally be dark and gloomy, becomes brighter.
Available in round and square shapes, as well as in different sizes of framework-only variants without lighting function, tables can also be arranged in a combined layout of several units.
